Juniper acquires AppFormix

 

AppFormix, a cloud operations management firm founded in 2013, has been acquired by networking company Juniper Networks. AppFormix supplies real-time insights into the state and health of clouds, allowing oversight and automated processes based on the needs of your cloud operating system. Most importantly, AppFormix has built in predictive features that prevent issues from arising in the first place.

 

 

AWS Launches Blox

 

Earlier this month, Amazon announced a number of changes to how it supports containers, which are quickly becoming the main gateway to operate distributed applications. Included in this announcement, was the introduction of Blox – a collection of open source scripts for building container management tools for ECS. Blox is now available on GitHub and features two projects – a cluster-state-service and a daemon scheduler.

 

 

Datto Launches Automatic Ransomware Protection

 

To combat increasing levels of malware threats, Datto, the leading provider of total data protection solutions, unveiled an enterprise-class ransomware protection for small and midsized businesses. Built into Datto’s suite of products, ransomware protection and recovery automatically detects and attacks threats, while also notifying administrators to immediately rollback software. According to Datto, the FBI predicts ransomware will be a $1 billion industry within the next year and Datto believes this new automated feature will help in the ongoing fight for data security.

 

 

 

New App tracks Memory Decline

 

Neurotrack Technologies Inc., a Redwood City, CA startup, has created a brain health app that is helping scientists unravel the mysteries of memory. The browser based app displays a series of images and tracks eye movement based on those images. Now in 5 minutes from anywhere in the world, a patient can provide their doctor with data on their memory functions and in turn, doctors can better track declining memory functions over time. Some believe this technology will help with breakthrough research for Alzheimer’s, dementia and other memory-related diseases.

Whether you like to binge watch your favorite shows or watch back to back movies, Netflix accounts now offer users the ability to kill time and catch up on their favorite flicks without the need for a wifi connection.

 

 

Mobile Shopping Hits New Records

 

Due to increases in mobile shopping, Thanksgiving has now become one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Thanksgiving mobile device sales were reported at $771 million in revenue. Top retailers including Amazon, Walmart and Target offered a number of pre-sale deals exclusively on their mobile app to aid traffic increases. Walmart reported that 70% of online traffic to its websites was from mobile devices, while Target reported that 60% of online traffic was from mobile devices.
